Sarah Namwange
Sarah was born into a family of 7 children. Her mother passed away when she was 12 years old. This left her and her siblings in the care of her father, who was an alcoholic. Her older sister stepped into the place of a caregiver and worked to pay Sarah’s school tuition and fees. This came to an end though, when her sister passed away while Sarah was in Primary school, grade 7. She was not able to go any further, or finish school, and instead she began to work in gardens for people to provide food for her, and her younger siblings.
In 2010, when she was 20 years old, she met her husband. At the time, he already had 7 children. It was a huge struggle to be able to provide for the family, especially because her husband did not have a job. Sarah found herself drinking alcohol everyday to cope with all that was going on. She was surrounded by alcoholics, including her husband. At this time, she considered herself to be a roman catholic, but was not practicing any type of religious lifestyle. Pastor Brian Lukyamuzi came across Sarah while doing door-to-door evangelism one day. The Lord placed her on his heart, and so he would continue to come back and visit her. He would bring food and soap to help her and her children during this time. Every time he would visit her, bringing these things, he would also give her the Gospel. The team of Redeemed Bible Church was praying for her all this time. Sarah also had a niece, who was a born again Christian. She would often speak into Sarah’s life regarding the alcoholism she was bounded in. She would tell Sarah about Jesus, and the way He loved her and wanted her to be free.
One day, in 2021, Sarah was listening to a local radio station while at home, and a woman was sharing her testimony. Sarah could not believe what she was hearing. This woman’s testimony was almost identical to the life Sarah was currently living. The Lord used the radio station, and this woman, to reach a deep place in Sarah’s heart. Sarah confessed her sins to God, and gave her life to Him.
In 2022, Sarah conceived a child, and during childbirth, almost died. Her midwife was with her, but was honest in telling her there was nothing more she could do. She was not able to give birth. In that moment, facing death, Sarah called out the name of Jesus, and prayed. Later that day, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl, and she herself was healthy as well.
For 6 months after this, Sarah still had not stepped foot in a church. She had bad experiences in the past with the Pastors she had confided in, and it kept her away, even though she had given her life to Jesus. She was scared of what would happen if she went back to a church. However, one day the Lord reminded her of the Pastor that so often would come visit her, and provide food and soap for her family, while delivering the Gospel to her in love and truth. God told her to walk to Redeemed Bible Church. Still scared, and unsure of churches and pastors, she obeyed what the Lord had told her. She has been a faithful member of Redeemed Bible Church since that very day. Most recently, her children received new clothes for Christmas, an answer to a desperate prayer of Sarah, who could not afford new clothes for her children. She is now self-employed, using the knowledge she gained at a young age of gardening, she sells tomatoes and other vegetables to gain income for her and her children. She also sews, and sells reusable pads to women who need them.
Sarah’s story shows the truth of the character of God. He pursues His children relentlessly, sending His people into the paths of those He loves so dearly. All along, while Sarah was running from the Lord, and leaning into alcohol to ease her pain, God saw her, loved her, and never once gave up on her.
